- If you ever have questions concerning ST hardware, the person you just
- might consider looking up would be Chris Karchnak alias Buckaroo Banzai,
- the Sysop of The Eighth Dimension located in Rockville, MD. Chris has been
- running his board for three years and one month and has absolutely no
- plans of taking it down in either the immediate or distant future.
- Originally run off a 520ST with one SS floppy and a RAMdisk, his present
- system is a much modified 520ST, and 80 meg hard drive, and a homebuilt
- DS floppy. The 520ST itself has been upgraded by the addition of a
- Surreal-Time clock, a JRI 16 mhz accelerator, a Tweety Board, a JRI 4096
- color board, TOS 1.4 ROMs, a soldered 1 meg RAM upgrade, and a fan.
- He has christened (no pun intended) his system the Super 520ST From Hell
- and, indeed, it is a most impressive set-up. Chris is a wizard
- at getting hardware to do what HE thinks it ought to do whether it wants
- to or not and always has several projects under consideration even
- though he may actually have neither time or money for them. He's always
- willing to help anyone who has computer problems and his only fee is a
- Pepsi Cola Super Big Gulp.
-
- He's an electrical engineering major at the University of Maryland to
- which he drives himself every day in his white '55 Chevy Bel-Air. He also
- has a yellow and white '57 Bel-Air parked at home (for sale,
- incidentally), cars being another one of his varied interests. On weekends
- he indulges another one of his interests and spends his time with his
- girlfriend, ME(!), who also happens to be the Co-Sysop of his board. We
- met over two and a half years ago, not long after I'd started calling
- The Eighth, and the rest is history....
-
- The software for The Eighth Dimension is Michtron BBS 3.0 and in all the
- time the board's been up, Chris has yet to see the program crash. There is
- a large file section, both ST and 8-bit, and there are several Special
- Interest Groups, one of which deserves particular mention....Sig 6 which
- specializes in insanity and the absence of reality. A most INTRIGUING SIG...
-
- I realize my bias for the board may not be the most objective, but I truly
- feel that you could do far worse than dialing 460-6030 and spending time
- on The Eighth Dimension. Our group of users is very friendly, we try to
- make everyone feel welcome and we have the ideal Sysop who does his
- best to maintain a quality board and quality friendships with all his
- users.....
- It's FUN......
